The seminar 'European quality standards of higher education in the context of international accreditation' was held for the first time in Ukraine at Alfred Nobel University

On May 12, 2021, Alfred Nobel University hosted an international seminar on European quality standards of higher education in the context of international accreditation.

The co-organizers and participants of the event were Alfred Nobel University (Ukraine), the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency ZEvA (Germany), the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance (Ukraine).

speaker_bAlfred Nobel University is the first and only higher education institution in Ukraine been accredited by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency ZEvA (Germany). In 2016, all study programmes of the University were accredited by the German accreditation agency. The leadership of the University have a clear understanding of needed internationalization of the national system of higher education and facilitating a culture of quality of Ukrainian higher education institutions which was the reason to host this event.

Borys Kholod, the President and Founder of Alfred Nobel University, greeted all participants on the seminar and noted that in 2020 he offered to hold the seminar to the leadership of the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency ZEvA and they agreed.

speaker_sSergii Kholod, the Rector of Alfred Nobel University, said in a welcoming speech that quality assurance is one of the key issues of any business organization. Today within the customer-centered paradigm, social responsibility of business and involvement of stakeholders is becoming increasingly important for the harmonious development of the organization. Today the Higher Education Quality Assurance issue in Ukraine is under close attention of all stakeholders. We work on Ukraine to enter the European education area as equal partners. Higher Education Quality Assurance is one of the main conditions for international institutions and our stakeholders to trust us. Therefore, the task of a modern university is to arrange educational activities so as to give students access to international mobility, motivate them to study and ensure their high competitiveness in the labor market.

The first speakers of the seminar were Henning Schäfer, Anja Grube and Leonie Pessara, the leadership of the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (ZEvA), with the speech ‘International Accreditation: Procedures - Benefits – Background’.

Serhii Kvit, the Head of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, told about the harmonization of requirements of different national systems of higher education quality assurance.

Nataliia Stukalo, the Deputy Head of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, addressed the issue of cross-border quality assurance: challenges and prospects for Ukraine.

Irina Taranenko, the Advisor to the President of Alfred Nobel University, the member of the Committee for the Quality of Academic Standards, the Head of the Department of International Marketing, gave the detailed information about experience in getting the international accreditation of Alfred Nobel University study programmes in the agency ZEvA (Germany).

Iryna Shkura, the Vice-Rector for Higher Education Quality Assurance of Alfred Nobel University, explained that continuous improvement of the internal quality assurance system is a basis for successful international accreditation.

Hryhorii Monastyrskyi, the professor of the Department of Management, Public Administration and Personnel of West Ukrainian National University (Ternopil, Ukraine), the Professor of the Institute of Economics and Management of the University of Economy in Bydgoszcz (Poland), told about the experience of the Polish Accreditation Commission in monitoring and ensuring the quality of higher education.

Iryna Skliar, the Head of the Department of Quality of Education, Licensing and Accreditation of Sumy National Agrarian University, spoke about the development of internal quality assurance systems.

Dmytro Sherenhovskyi, the Deputy Vice Rector for Education, Teaching and International Activity, Ukrainian Catholic University, told about the work with stakeholders.

The seminar was held online via ZOOM. The representatives of higher education institutions from all over Ukraine meet to learn more about international accreditation, the benefits and risks of this process, the application of European quality standards of higher education and had the opportunity to receive answers from seminar speakers. Thus, the main goal of the seminar was achieved: to promote the integration of the higher education system of Ukraine into the European educational area and to exchange the experience of leading higher education institutions in order to improve internal quality assurance systems.
