FAQ
How can I prepare for studying in Ukraine?

We recommend preparing for your departure very carefully and well in advance, as completing all required documents takes time and effort. Before departure: obtain a Ukrainian visa (type D13 or “student visa”). For additional information, please contact the Embassy or Consulate of Ukraine in your country. Make sure to bring all important documents with you. Your secondary school certificate or diploma must be legalised or apostilled in accordance with Ukrainian legislation.

Will someone meet me at the Ukrainian border?

A representative of the International Students Office will meet you at the border of Ukraine.

How will my stay in Ukraine be legalised?

Applicants may enter Ukraine with a valid passport and a student visa. A short-term visa allows staying in Ukraine for up to 3 months. To extend legal stay, it is necessary to apply for a Temporary Residence Permit (“Residence Card”).

Do I need medical insurance?

All international students must have medical insurance for the entire period of their stay.

Is there a dormitory at ANU and what is the cost?

ANU offers accommodation in a dormitory with all necessary facilities: furniture, a shared kitchen on each floor, laundry, playground, and recreation areas. Double and triple rooms are available. The approximate cost is UAH 3,500–5,000 per month.

What is the procedure for obtaining an invitation?

Can family members arrive in Ukraine using the same invitation?

A student receives an individual D13 visa only. Family members may apply for a tourist visa separately.

How can I obtain a student visa for Ukraine?

After receiving the official invitation letter from ANU, you should apply for a D13 student visa at the Embassy or Consulate of Ukraine in your country.

Do I need to pass entrance examinations?

Yes. To obtain a Bachelor’s degree, applicants must pass entrance examinations in English or Ukrainian language and Mathematics. To obtain a Master’s degree, applicants must pass an entrance examination in a foreign language and in their

Does ANU have a preparatory department?

Yes, ANU has a preparatory department that offers the “Foundation” programme.

What programme is offered at the preparatory department?

General education subjects: Ukrainian language for foreigners, English language for foreigners, Mathematics, Informatics or other subjects chosen by the applicant. Business Economics and Cultural Studies are also included.

Duration of courses and mode of study

6 or 9 months; full-time (on-campus) and distance (online) modes of study are available.

What language is the instruction provided in?

ANU offers educational programmes in English and Ukrainian.

Is it possible to take academic leave?

Yes, it is possible for valid reasons such as medical conditions, participation in academic mobility programmes, family circumstances, and other justified reasons.

Requirements for completion of the study programme

A student is admitted to the final examination provided that they have fully completed the curriculum of the relevant educational and professional programme.

Can I transfer to ANU?

A transfer is possible if the study programmes differ by no more than 20 ECTS credits. Additional requirements can be clarified upon request at the Centre for International Students: [email protected].

Can I pay tuition in instalments?

Yes, tuition fees can be paid in two instalments per academic year.

Where will the classes take place?

The theoretical part is conducted at the university, while practical training takes place at designated practice bases (organisations and institutions).

Can I work in Ukraine?

A D13 student visa allows you to study but does not permit legal employment in Ukraine.

If you lose your residence permit, please contact the police and the ANU Centre for International Students immediately.

Leisure activities at ANU

Sports activities, student clubs, cultural events, parties, and various student activities are available.

Climate and clothing

Winter: from −15°C to +8°C; Summer: 18–25°C, occasionally up to 35°C. We recommend clothing suitable for all weather conditions, especially waterproof and windproof items for autumn and winter.

Money and currency exchange

The official currency is the Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH). Currency exchange is safest at banks.

Ambulance emergency number: 103. In case of insured events, please contact your insurance company.

Police

Police emergency number: 102. After contacting the police, please inform the Centre for International Students.
